COCKTAILS
The cocktail is an American creation. It was officially invented in New York in 1808. The first cocktail
recipe called for (sugar + water + bitters + spirits). Ironically, in that same year, the American
Temperance Society was formed. Before it was over, the ATS had a huge influence on American culture,
politics, and even the election of presidents.
Cocktails did not become fashionable really until Prohibition when something needed to be done to hide
the taste, texture, and aroma of poorly made moonshine.

During the 1930's, American women became master mixologists introducing vast arrays of increasingly complex
brandy and gin based elixirs. In the 1970s, Vodka emerged as the main spirit base. Today the popularity of
cocktails is rebounding after decades of decline. Gin and brandy based cocktails are especially enjoying a
renaissance.
There is an art to concocting a great cocktail. What you present is as equally important as how you present it. If
you want the best quality cocktail, you have to start with the best quality ingredients, like Don Quixote spirits. Some
cocktails are blended into one homogeneous offering while others are layered to provide a cascading ripple of
different tastes. Not only that, cocktails are rich in color and form. Do not be afraid to let the artisan in you come out
with flare and adventure when you present your latest masterpiece. The following links provide cocktail recipes
based on Don Quixote Brandy, Gin and Vodka. They need to be carefully followed not only to ensure the proper
taste effect, but also to increase their visual drama.

COOKING
WINE
Cooking with wine and spirits enhances the most gourmet foods. For example, the acids in wine react with
meat to soften the texture and bring out the flavor. Spirits in a cheese fondue help to smooth out
consistency while drawing more of the subtle tastes to the forefront.
Baking with alcohol has long been recognized as key to bring out the best in creams, frostings, and other
desert favorites. We invite you to help us build our repertoire of great wine and spirits based recipes.
One does not usually think of wine as a base for blended refreshments. However, drinks such as Sangria,
have long been popular. Wine based drinks are used as aperitifs, desserts, and social enjoyment.
